Published 13 August 2025From 8 a.m. on 18 August 2025, as the first measure financially supported by the Region to mitigate the critical issues arising from the closure of the Slovenian H4 motorway for works, and in order to ease road traffic congestion, based on a specific agreement between the Region and SDAG S.p.A., the rest areas for heavy vehicles managed by SDAG S.p.A. will be made available to users (free of charge).
From 18 August, work will begin on upgrading the infrastructure and road surface of the Slovenian H4 motorway towards Gorizia, which, according to the work schedule, will last 100 days. To allow for this upgrade, the Slovenian H4 motorway will be closed to heavy goods vehicles from Eastern Europe, which will be diverted to the Fernetti Sezana border crossing.
The following rest areas are available for free access:
– P1 located near the Autoporto
– P2 located at the border station
– P3 (customs circuit) located at the border station

The above-mentioned SDAG parking areas have a total of 550 parking spaces for heavy goods vehicles. These areas are fully video-monitored and manned 24/7 and offer various services such as toilets and showers, free Wi-Fi, gazebos and rain shelters, green areas for picnics, a relaxation room, a bar and an information point to ensure a comfortable stop for drivers using them. In addition, the fenced-off areas, equipped with road signs/signposts, a specialised workshop for heavy goods vehicles and a certified public weighing service, offer additional services as well as a high standard of safety.
Customs formalities can be carried out while vehicles are parked in the above-mentioned SDAG parking areas.
